The God of Grace and Power
A Sermon on Acts 4:31-33
And when they had prayed, the place in which they were gathered together was shaken, and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and continued to speak the word of God with boldness.
They Had Everything in Common
Now the full number of those who believed were of one heart and soul, and no one said that any of the things that belonged to him was his own, but they had everything in common. And with great power the apostles were giving their testimony to the resurrection of the Lord Jesus, and great grace was upon them all. (ESV)
The world can only be saved by the grace and power of God almighty. There is no other way as Dr. Martyn Lloyd-Jones proclaims! For the whole world lies under the condemnation of God’s wrath that justly befalls all unrighteousness and ungodliness that rejects God’s rule over the world and their lives. The only way to escape this judgment has been provided by God in Jesus Christ’s death and resurrection. This is the Gospel, God showing grace to those who hate him and reject him by sending his only begotten Son to die in their place. In this grace God’s wrath can be escaped and fallen sinners can receive new life and become the children of the God they once hated and despised. They can have complete assurance that they will be saved on the last day because of the grace of God made manifest in Christ. This is the hope of the Gospel, salvation to all who trust in Christ, and all who rest in his grace will conquer with Christ when he returns to bring the new heavens and the new earth! This is the only hope for the world. God’s grace is Christ. So, we must not fail to repent and believe in the only savior that the world has ever known.
