A Sermon on 1 Kings 3:9
Give your servant therefore an understanding mind to govern your people, that I may discern between good and evil, for who is able to govern this your great people?” (ESV)
Everyone is given the choice of wisdom or pleasure in this life. This is the choice Solomon was given and he chose wisdom. In this sermon, Dr. Martyn Lloyd-Jones shows us that when we choose the world over wisdom, we are guaranteeing emptiness. Man was created to be fulfilled most fully in the Lord. Lloyd-Jones says that to choose anything but wisdom is short-sighted and in fact an insult to man's nature. So what is it that makes us choose wisdom? It is what happens when we truly understand the greatness of the task ahead of us in this life, we will choose wisdom to help us. The world will call for our attention and promise its comforts, but it will not satisfy. Will you consider the hard path ahead? Will you choose wisdom and fulfill yourself in this gift from the Lord? God alone is strong enough to guide us through this life and into the next.
