Lord of All
A Sermon on John 1:16
For from his fullness we have all received, grace upon grace. (ESV)
When you think of Jesus Christ what do you think? Do you think of His life and work? His teaching and His miracles? Do you think of His mercy, grace, and love? Each of these grant some great blessing to the Christian; however, in this discourse on John 1:16, Dr. Martyn Lloyd-Jones elaborates on how we receive good from the Lord because of Christ's exultation. Even as Jesus was crucified, died, and was buried, He also ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. Dr. Lloyd-Jones elaborates that it is from this exulted position that He makes intercession for us. Moreover, Dr. Lloyd-Jones recounts the might of human empires that rise and fall. Again and again, nations rage and kingdoms plot in vain, but never does one kingdom seize all power, or hold it for very long. Dr. Lloyd-Jones encourages the Christian to take heart when wars arise to know that our Messiah is the one who is seated on the heavenly throne! The one who intercedes for us is the same that calmed the storms with a word, and is the very word of power by which the wind and waves were created. He is your strong tower!
About Dr. Martyn Lloyd-Jones
Dr. Martyn Lloyd-Jones (1899-1981) was a Welsh evangelical minister who preached and taught in the Reformed tradition. His principal ministry was at Westminster Chapel, in central London, from 1939-1968, where he delivered multi-year expositions on books of the bible such as Romans, Ephesians and the Gospel of John. In addition to the MLJ Trust’s collection of 1,600 of these sermons in audio format, most of these great sermon series are available in book form (including a 14 volume collection of the Romans sermons), as are other series such as "Spiritual Depression", "Studies in the Sermon on the Mount" and "Great Biblical Doctrines". He is considered by many evangelical leaders today to be an authority on biblical truth and the sufficiency of Scripture.
