A Sermon on Romans 6:11

So you also must consider yourselves dead to sin and alive to God in Christ Jesus. (ESV)

Do you fear death? Dr. Martyn Lloyd-Jones reminds us that those who are in Christ will never taste death and that is one of the most comforting truths as a Christian. Paul explains in Romans 6:11 that we can count yourselves dead to sin but alive in Christ. The Doctor points several key truths in this verse: our whole relationship to sin has changed, sin no longer has dominion over us even though we have contact with sin in our bodies, we are no longer under the law and it’s condemnation, and the dominion of death no longer remains. A Christian no longer sins as a slave, but sins voluntarily as a free man. Not even the devil himself can make a Christian a slave to sin and its consequences! We are indeed dead to sin realm, rule, and reign in our lives. Since sin is the reason for death, we will never truly experience death. The Doctor points out that Christians will only sleep until Christ returns and we get to live in the glory of the Lord forevermore.
