The Unsearchable Riches of Christ
A Sermon on 2 Peter 1:1
Simeon Peter, a servant and apostle of Jesus Christ,
To those who have obtained a faith of equal standing with ours by the righteousness of our God and Savior Jesus Christ: (ESV)
Why are you struggling in your walk with Christ? Are you still overcome with anxiety? Are you frustrated with continued temptations? While we are promised that God will gradually grow us into the image of His sinless Son, many of us become frustrated to find that we still struggle with many of the things we wrestled with before we became followers of Jesus. In this sermon from 2 Peter 1:1, Dr. Martyn Lloyd-Jones says that many of the the problems in our Christian life can be traced to our forgetfulness about the truths of our faith. If you are constantly anxious about things or if you are discouraged because you find yourself still wrestling with many temptations, The Doctor encourages you to actively call to mind the core tenets and promises of Christianity, such as that God has equipped you with everything you need to live in a way that pleases Him. Do you realize the precious character of your faith? It is precious because God Himself has given it to us, because it cost Him His Son, because it is rare and many people do not have the blessing of knowing Jesus as their Savior, and because we are in the same company as the heroes of the faith who have gone before us. Let us rest in the precious value and promises of our faith, for He is faithful!
