The Man Who Wrestled with God
A Sermon on Genesis 32:24-25
And Jacob was left alone. And a man wrestled with him until the breaking of the day. When the man saw that he did not prevail against Jacob, he touched his hip socket, and Jacob's hip was put out of joint as he wrestled with him. (ESV)
The great turning-point in Jacob's life; confusion about the Christian experience; a true relationship with God: (1) must be personal; not based on group activity; (2) involves 'being dealt with'; (3) includes knowing the most important need is to be blessed by God; (4) results in blessing; peace with God; a major change; real and lasting humility. Preached at Heath Evangelical Church in 1977.
